CYCLONES Cyclones have been in Spain. They have gotten up to 70 mph so just as fast as a car on the highway. The winds have gotten up to over 100 mph. Also have gotten about 3 to 4 inches of rain. Cyclones near Spain have taken 300 to 500 thousand live I can't say how much Spain has been put in but thats just a total that they have thats near Spain. Their system is similar to there floods in a way. they only differences is to stay inside or inside and underground if possible. Then its the same as to have flashlight a radio and other essentials that you may need during the times. Cyclones don't happen often but when it does happen it does leave a big mess that they have to clean up. Extreme Weather Spains climate is a overlap of one fundamental climatic division. This is between humid and semiarid and arid zones. Also in the threefold division of the peninsula, maritime, continental, and mountain climates. Spains weather is typically sunny for the most part. Spain has around 3,000 hours of sunshine every year. The three main atmospheres in Spain will be Mediterranean, semi-arid, and oceanic. The most recent extreme weather Spain had was storm Gloria. MASS WASTING "AKA" LANDSLIDES In Spain they don't have a lot of landslides that happen. Although they have to be careful because their is a lot of activity such as high tectonic activities. They do have a lot of sand and clay deposits which can be dangerous because if they get wet they can be very sensitive and can cause a landslide. They way that landslides work is that they have rocks or dirt or other material fall down a slope. This can be caused by soil erosion, earthquakes and volcanic activities. The risks that landslides can have on us is destruction of vegetation of drought and fires. VOLCANOES Spain has a few volcanoes. In Spain they have 4 volcanoes which are Campo de Calatrava, Cofrentes, Columbretes, Islas, and Olot Field. But Spain also owns the Canary Island and their volcanoes so the Canary Island have 7 volcanoes which are El Hierro, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, La Gomera, La Palma, Lanzarote, and Tenerife. They are all active but the good thing is that none of them have erupted in about 40 or plus years. They only thing is that they do have to keep an eye out for them as they can and will erupt. The two main volcanoes their in Spain are Campo De Calatrava and Olot Field. This volcano is located in Central Spain. It has more then 300 pyroclastic cones, maars, and lava domes. Week #3 Earthquake To start of by talking about the difference between magnitude and intensity. Magnitude measures the energy at the source of the earthquake. While intensity measure the shaking produced by the earthquake at a certain location. Now to talk about the seismic waves, so for Spain they where able to figure out where they were happening. They where also able to determine how the rocks where moving and what was shaking and moving on Spain. This helped out Spain a lot because it gave them a sense of where the earthquake where happing. Then for the mitigation strategy where able to help out Spain with there earthquakes. Spain was able to determine the shake and how long and strong they were. TECTONICS The plate that Spain is sitting on are the Iberian and European plate. They collided together and they had formed the Pyrenees mountain range. These plates also move around 26mm/yr to the northeast. On this map you can see what plates there are as well as where they shift to. They also say how much they move within a years worth. This map shows how the plates move and also say whats happening throughout the process of their movement. It also shows that its right under the capital of Spain.
